A fiber laser marking machine is the go-to tool for permanent marks on metal: serial numbers, barcodes, tumblers, tags, knives and tools. LaserEngraver.co.za is a free quote service: you tell us what you will mark, how many pieces and your budget, and we pass it to independent fibre laser dealers, importers and technicians in South Africa, who quote you directly. We do not sell or import machines ourselves, and there is no fee or obligation. If you are comparing a laser marking machine in South Africa for a business or workshop, start with one request.
Galvo fibre, MOPA and handheld types
- Standard galvo fibre markers (20 to 100 W) mark stainless steel, mild steel, aluminium, brass and many plastics at high speed, ideal for laser marking of parts and gifts.
- MOPA fiber lasers let you tune pulse width for colour marking on stainless steel, black marks on anodised aluminium and cleaner marks on plastics.
- Split and handheld units separate the head from the source so you can mark large or awkward items such as engine blocks, steel frames and machinery.
Fiber laser engraver price in South Africa
As a 2026 guide, a 20 to 30 W galvo fibre engraver costs about R35,000 to R70,000, a 50 to 60 W unit about R65,000 to R120,000, and a MOPA machine R80,000 to R180,000. Enclosed Class 1 cabinets, rotary attachments, Z-axis motors and fume extraction add to the price. Check that quotes include VAT, a lens suited to your work area, software and training. A larger lens covers bigger items but gives a wider spot and shallower marks, so many buyers order two lenses. Industrial buyers should ask about conveyor or production line integration.
What a fibre laser can and cannot do
A fibre laser engraves deep into metal and marks coated tumblers beautifully, but it does not cut wood or engrave clear acrylic well. For wood, leather and acrylic you need a CO2 laser machine. A 20 W source suits light marking; choose 50 W or more for deep engraving of knives, firearms parts and moulds. Galvo lenses define the field, usually 110 x 110 mm to 300 x 300 mm.
Safety, support and warranty
Fibre lasers are Class 4 and their 1064 nm beam is invisible, so proper wavelength-rated glasses or an enclosed cabinet are essential. Ask about warranty on the laser source, local stock of lenses and galvo parts, and on-site training. For repairs later, see laser parts and repairs. Fume extraction matters as well, because marking coated metals and plastics releases fine particles that should be filtered.
