Laser cutting signage gives clean, accurate letters and shapes that are hard to match by hand, whether for a reception logo, door signs or a shopfront. LaserEngraver.co.za is a free quote referral service: you describe the sign on one form, and we pass it to independent sign makers, laser cutting shops and engineering works who quote you directly. We do not cut, make or install signs ourselves, and there is no fee or obligation. Signage laser cutting suits acrylic, metal, wood and composite panels for indoor and outdoor use.
What laser cut signage covers
- Laser cutting letters: individual acrylic or metal letters in 3 to 20 mm thickness, fixed flat or on spacers
- Laser cutting logo pieces for reception walls, often layered acrylic or brushed stainless steel
- Door, office and toilet signs, engraved or cut in acrylic and two-colour laminate
- Wayfinding and directional signs for offices, estates and hospitals
- Menus, price boards and table numbers for restaurants and wine estates
- Illuminated signs: edge-lit acrylic, backlit halo letters and lightboxes with cut faces
- House numbers and laser cutting name plates for gates and walls
Materials and finishes
Cast acrylic laser cutting gives polished edges in clear, opal, black, mirror and colours, and suits indoor letters and illuminated faces. For outdoor durability, metal laser cutting in stainless steel, aluminium or mild steel with powder coating is better, as acrylic can fade in strong South African sun after several years. Wood and MDF suit painted indoor signs, while aluminium composite panels are common for large flat signboards. Brushed, mirror and powder coated finishes are all available on metal, and acrylic can be layered in two colours, painted on the reverse or combined with a metal face for depth. Ask for a small sample cut in your chosen material if colour matching to a brand guide matters.
Prices and artwork
As a guide, 3 mm acrylic door signs cost R120 to R350, 100 mm high acrylic letters R40 to R120 each, and a 1 metre wide reception logo in layered acrylic or stainless steel R2,500 to R12,000 depending on thickness and finish. Illuminated letters cost more because of LEDs and wiring. Send logos as vector files (SVG, AI, DXF or PDF) with fonts converted to outlines, and give the overall width or letter height you want.
Fixing and installation
Common fixings are stand-off locators (polished steel spacers), hidden studs with a drilling template, double-sided VHB tape for light indoor pieces, and rails or brackets for projecting signs. Ask whether the price includes installation, travel and working at height. Most indoor signs take 5 to 10 working days, and illuminated or large outdoor signs 2 to 4 weeks. Shopping centres and estates often need landlord or HOA approval first, and large outdoor signs may need municipal signage approval, so check before ordering. Supply a photo of the wall with rough measurements so the installer can plan fixings and spacing.
What to include in your request
