A laser cutting machine is a major investment, so it pays to compare suppliers before you sign. LaserEngraver.co.za is a free quote service: you describe the materials, thicknesses and sheet sizes you cut, and we pass your request to independent laser machine dealers, importers and installers in South Africa, who quote you directly. We do not sell, import or install anything ourselves, and there is no fee or obligation. Whether you need a large-format CO2 cutter for acrylic and MDF or a CNC fibre laser cutting machine for metal, one form reaches several suppliers.

CO2 cutters or fibre cutters for metal

Two families cover most buyers:

  • Large-format CO2 cutters (100 to 300 W, beds from 1300 x 900 to 1600 x 2500 mm) cut acrylic, MDF, plywood, leather and fabric with clean edges. They suit signage, shopfitting and acrylic laser cutting.
  • Fibre laser cutting machines (1.5 to 12 kW, beds of 3000 x 1500 mm and up) cut mild steel, stainless steel, aluminium and brass. They are the standard for metal laser cutting and fabrication shops.

Laser cutting machine price in South Africa

As a 2026 guide, a 100 to 150 W CO2 cutter with a 1300 x 900 mm bed costs about R90,000 to R220,000. A 3 kW fibre sheet cutter starts from about R450,000, with 6 kW and exchange-table machines often R900,000 to R2 million. Ask whether prices include VAT, import duties, delivery, offloading, installation, a chiller, an air compressor or nitrogen supply, extraction and operator training. Running costs matter too: a fibre cutter uses far less power than a CO2 machine of similar output, but nitrogen for bright stainless edges can cost thousands of rand a month.

Installation, power and services

Industrial cutters need planning before delivery. Most fibre machines and larger CO2 cutters need three-phase power, a level concrete floor, a dedicated chiller, clean dry compressed air or bottled oxygen and nitrogen, and dust or fume extraction ducted outside. Check door widths and crane or forklift access. A good supplier does a site survey, commissions the machine and trains your operators. Budget for an electrician to install a dedicated supply and isolator, and for a stabiliser or UPS where the grid is unreliable during load-shedding.

Warranty, spares and support

Downtime costs more than the machine. Ask about warranty on the laser source and the cutting head, stock of nozzles, protective lenses and ceramics in South Africa, and how quickly a technician can reach you. Compare lead times: some cutters are ex stock, others ship from overseas in eight to twelve weeks. For ongoing help, see laser parts and repairs.

What to include in your request

  • List materials and maximum thickness
  • Give the sheet size you buy
  • Say if three-phase power is available
  • Mention compressor and gas supply on site
  • Ask about installation and training

Frequently asked questions

Is LaserEngraver.co.za a laser cutting machine dealer?
No. We are a free referral and quote service. We send your brief to independent dealers and importers, they quote you directly, and you choose. We hold no stock and take no payment from you.
What laser cutting machine do I need for metal?
For sheet metal, a fibre laser cutter is the right tool. A 1.5 to 3 kW source cuts mild steel up to about 12 to 16 mm and thin stainless and aluminium fast. Higher power mostly adds speed and thickness, so match the source to the plate you cut most often rather than the thickest job you might take.
Can a CO2 laser cutting machine cut metal?
Hobby and desktop CO2 lasers cannot cut metal. Some high-power CO2 hybrids cut thin steel with oxygen, but for regular metal work a fibre cutter is faster and cheaper to run.
Is finance available for laser cutting machines for sale?
Many suppliers work with equipment finance houses or offer rental and lease terms. Tick the finance box on the form and dealers will include options with their quotes. Imported machines are usually priced in dollars, so ask how long a quote stays valid.
