When a laser stops cutting, loses power or fires off target, you need a laser engraver repair technician or the right spare part fast. LaserEngraver.co.za is a free quote service for laser parts and repairs in South Africa. You describe the machine, the fault or the part you need, and we pass it to independent laser parts suppliers and service technicians who quote you directly. We do not repair machines or sell parts ourselves, and there is no fee or obligation. The service covers CO2, diode and fibre lasers, from desktop engravers to large cutting machines.

Common laser parts

Most breakdowns come down to a short list of consumables and parts:

  • CO2 laser tubes: glass tubes fade with use and last roughly 1,500 to 10,000 hours depending on quality and cooling. A 60 W tube is about R2,500 to R5,000, a 100 W to 130 W tube R5,000 to R12,000.
  • Power supplies: matched to tube wattage, about R2,000 to R6,000.
  • Lenses and mirrors: focus lenses and mirrors get dirty or crack, about R300 to R1,500 each.
  • Chillers: a water chiller protects the tube, R4,000 to R15,000.
  • Fibre protective windows: cheap lens windows that protect the cutting head optics.
  • Fume extractors, air assist pumps and honeycomb beds.

Laser engraver repair and servicing

Technicians handle mirror alignment, tube replacement, power supply and controller faults, stepper and belt problems, limit switches, water flow alarms and software set-up. A yearly service with cleaning, alignment and a cooling check prevents most failures. Tick on-site repair if the machine is too large to move. For machine upgrades, see CO2 laser machines and fiber laser machines.

Signs your laser needs attention

Watch for weaker cuts at the same power, cuts that are deep on one side of the bed and shallow on the other (misalignment), a pink or flickering tube glow, arcing sounds, water alarms or a chiller running warm, and steps or wobbles in engraved lines. Catching these early is cheaper than replacing a cracked tube or burnt power supply. Before calling anyone, clean the lens and mirrors, check the water flow and temperature, and confirm the tube still fires on a test pulse. Note what you found on the form, because it helps a technician narrow the fault and quote accurately.

Laser repair prices

As a 2026 guide, a workshop diagnosis is about R450 to R950 and an on-site call-out about R650 to R1,500 plus travel. Mirror alignment and a general service run roughly R800 to R2,000. Parts are extra, and imported parts can take one to two weeks, so ask whether the supplier holds stock locally. Fitting a new tube with alignment usually adds R500 to R1,200 in labour. If a repair costs more than half the value of an old desktop laser, compare a new laser engraving machine.

What to include in your request

  • Give the laser type and wattage
  • Describe the fault or part needed
  • Say how old the machine is
  • Say whether on-site repair is needed
  • Add a photo of the fault or old part

Frequently asked questions

Does LaserEngraver.co.za repair lasers itself?
No. We are a referral and quote service only, with no workshop or parts stock. Your request goes to independent technicians and parts suppliers, they quote you directly, and you choose who to use.
How do I know my CO2 laser tube is finished?
Power drops even after alignment and lens cleaning, the glow turns weak or patchy, or the tube is cracked or leaking. A technician can check output with a power meter.
Why must I use a chiller or water pump?
CO2 tubes need constant cooling. Running without water flow, or with water over about 25 degrees, cracks the tube quickly. Use distilled water and antifreeze in cold areas.
Can damage from cutting PVC be repaired?
Sometimes. PVC releases chlorine gas that corrodes rails, mirrors and electronics. Cleaning and replacing parts may help, but never laser cut PVC or vinyl.
