Types of trophies and awards
- Acrylic awards: laser cut shapes in clear or coloured acrylic, engraved for a frosted look, from R120 to R450 each. See acrylic laser cutting
- Glass and crystal awards: heavier and more formal, R350 to R1,500. See glass engraving
- Engraved plaques: wood or MDF with an anodised aluminium or brass plate, R150 to R600
- Medals: stock metal medals with engraved or printed inserts, R25 to R80 each in bulk
- Name badges: engraved aluminium or two-colour laminate badges with pin or magnet backs, R35 to R90
- Honours boards: wall boards with engraved name plates, added to each year
- Cups and figurine trophies with an engraved plate on the base
Schools, sports clubs and companies
Schools order most heavily before prize-giving in October and November, and sports clubs at the end of their season. Order four to six weeks ahead for these peaks. A laser cutting trophy in a custom shape, such as a rugby ball, a protea or a company icon, costs more for the first piece because of design time, but repeat orders are cheap. Companies use engraved awards for long service, top sales and safety milestones, often alongside corporate gifts.
Engraving text, sizes and files
Send the engraving as a typed list: award title, winner name, year and any logo. Engravers charge per item plus a small amount for text over a set number of characters. Logos and crests should be vector files (SVG, AI, EPS or PDF). Typical award heights are 150 to 250 mm, and plaques 150 x 200 mm or A4. Shorter titles engrave larger and read better from a distance. Ask for a proof of every award with names, because spelling errors are the most common reason for re-engraving.
Lead times and reorders
Stock trophies with engraved plates take 3 to 7 working days. Custom laser cut acrylic or wooden awards take 7 to 15 working days, and imported crystal can take longer.
