Laser work in Pietermaritzburg
Pietermaritzburg is a schools town before anything else, and the prize-giving and sports seasons drive steady demand for engraved trophies, medals, honours boards, blazer badges and wooden plaques. Government departments and the courts order desk name plates, door signs and long-service awards, while Midlands wedding venues around Howick and Hilton want laser-cut welcome boards, table numbers and wooden favours. Mkondeni and Willowton have engineering and sheet metal works that cut mild steel brackets and fibre-mark parts, and timber and dairy farms in the Midlands order branding irons, gate signs and livestock tags. Work not done locally comes up the N3 from Durban overnight.
Typical trophies and awards requests in the area come from:
- Schools, clubs and churches: prize-giving trophies, medals, prefect name badges and honours board names each year
- Weddings and events: awards and medals for fun runs, golf days, wedding speeches and charity functions
- Businesses and brands: long-service plaques, top sales awards and engraved staff name badges for reception
- Gifts and keepsakes: an engraved plaque or acrylic award for a retirement, milestone birthday or family achievement
- Factories, engineering and mines: safety milestone plaques and engraved awards for teams with injury-free records
- Farms and agri businesses: agricultural show awards, best herd plaques and engraved trophies for farmers' days
- Shops, restaurants and venues: staff name badges and engraved certificates of excellence displayed in restaurants and shops
